house mossel bay

Residential design located in Mossel Bay, Western Cape. The house is designed to overlook the harbour and ocean horizon.

 

The main concept was derived from the notion of “Hiking up the Hill”. Meandering over and through the boulders and bush, we constantly encounter moments where a decision determines the outcome of the path.

 

Situated on a very steep site, level differences and solutions to counter excessive stairs and earth retention was an integral design informant. Two concrete anchors in this design, the chimneys, support the origami-like roof that emulates a geometric version of the hills experienced within this area. As the origami roof is shaped up the hill; spaces are organised and determined underneath to form a coherent and sequential user experience.
